ROUTE

white halftone BW

On May 1st the lightning shall ride as we dip our back wheels into the mighty Pacific and leave the misty coast of Florence, Oregon, headed east for Boston, Massachusetts.  In total the trip will cover an epic 3 months, 12 states, and some 3,500 miles.

We are going to start the tour on what is known as the TransAmerica Bike Route, the most famous coast to coast route in the United States.  We plan to follow the TransAm from Oregon northeast through Idaho, and down through Montana into Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.  From Yellowstone we will be creating our own route east through Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, and into Illinois.

We hope to average 50 plus miles a day, getting us to Chicago in late June.  In Chicago we will be enjoying some quality Kinsey family time, as well as working on the Mt. Dew tour in order to raise some extra funds.

Exiting Chicago we will be once again creating our own route through Indiana and connecting with another established trail in Ohio known as the Northern Tier Route.  That route will take us through Ohio, Pennsylvania, and into New York.  In New York we will split from the Northern Tier heading east into Massachusetts, getting us to Boston in late July for an Atlantic Ocean rendezvous.

    • Arguably RTL's longest day. Short miles. Many detours. One involving woods and mud. Soaking rain. But Pittsfield MA despite. So close booya! 2009/07/16
